Space in the home directory is not be unlimited, yet with default settings some programs make very liberal use of my precious storage.

Below is a list of programs that reserve disk space for caching purposes. And how to disable the cache altogether or reduce its size. And where it can be found (all paths are relative to the home directory, ~).

• Adobe Acrobat
  .adobe/Acrobat/7.0/Cache (20 MB)
  Preferences -> Search -> Fast Find: Uncheck 'Enable fast find'
• Ubuntu Tracker
  .cache/tracker (500 MB)
  System -> Preferences -> Search and Indexing: Uncheck 'Enable indexing', Uncheck 'Enable watching'
  
• Gnome Nautilus Thumbnails
  .thumbnails
• Flash Player
  .macromedia/Flash_Player and .adobe/Flash_Player
• Java
.java/deployment/cache
• Google Earth
